In order to create the connection between the park and the urban grid, the building folds down again in the south-east corner, creating a new flow across the roof off the building, allowing visitors of the center, to continue up on the green roof of the building, overlooking the park, and providing the visitor with a view of the otherwise hidden Grand Canal.

Interiør – Mod Scene

When arriving to the center, whether it is by foot, bike, bus or car, the first thing you will notice, is the change in the pavement. It starts out as a open paved square, that, when not used for parking, can gather people for many different activities, from flea markets to skateboarding and open air concerts. When you get closer to the center, the pavement breaks up, and blocks start raising from the ground level, creating anatural barrier for cars and busses, while the pedestrians and cyclist can still pass. Closer to the center the blocks raises even further, creating benches and boxes for the public to use, whether you are just passingby, or sitting waiting to meet friends and family before entering the center.

As you enter the center, you step into the lobby, a large room that almost spans the entire width of the center. In the lobby it is possible to buy tickets, to book the different workshops and studios, and gather information about the center. The lobby is the distribution center, that connects the different functions of the center, and even though the lobby is the formal entrance to the center, it is possible to enter the center at many different point, as the Cafe and the Workshops, to make easy access for the different types of activities and users in the building.

As the building folds down, the green roof reconnects with the pedestrian area, merging with the urban environment, graduating from the softer green park, to the rougher pavement and buildings, and also creating a new flow across the roof off the building.

The green fold creates a “pocket”, that holds the different functions of the center. All the functions are placed in their own separate box and all the boxes peaks out from under the green roof, as to tell the story of the contrast between the park and city, but also giving the visitor a preview, as it frames the different activities going on in the Community Center.

Besides from the lighting, the orientation off the boxes support the feel of the surroundings, having the more public functions – Cafe and lobby, placed in connection with the more active flow and circulation (cars, busses and coaches), creating a lively, active facade, and the workshops and galleries placed in contact with the more quiet circulation (pedetrians and bicycles), presenting a more secluded and inspirational facade. Having these “function-boxes” placed in the outer perimeter of the building, creates an internal square, that gives space to the Auditorium, the center and the heart of the Building.
